Press Release 10/01/20: New on No on Prop 22 Ad: Uber, Lyft, Doordash Are Taking Californians for a Ride With Deceptive Prop 22

Statewide TV Spot Drives Home How App Companies Wrote Prop 22 to Deny Drivers Sick Pay, Workers’ Comp, Unemployment Benefits

Sacramento, CA — The No On Prop 22 campaign today launched a statewide TV buy with a new 30- second commercial, “Ride,” that drives home for voters how the deceptive Prop 22 was written by Uber, Lyft and Doordash to deny their drivers benefits like sick pay, workers’ compensation and unemployment insurance.

“This new ad makes clear Prop 22 was written, bought and paid for by Uber, Lyft and Doordash for one reason and one reason only: to strip drivers of the benefits we deserve and are counting on more than ever in this pandemic,” said Hector Castellanos, Bay Area Uber & Lyft Driver.  “California voters are now seeing what drivers like me know, that app companies are taking California for a ride with this deceptive initiative.  Their measure means NO sick leave. NO workers’ comp. NO unemployment benefits for drivers like me.  That’s why rideshare drivers say vote NO on 22.”

The No on 22 ad begins airing statewide as the multi-billion app companies are spending $184 million to buy themselves a new law, shattering proposition spending records.
